Leave splitting, on paper, is simple: if not all is taken in the summer, you can recover 1 or 2 days. Understanding what has been done
What the rule says
When an employee does not take their 24 working days during the legal period (May 1 → October 31), they can benefit from additional splitting days:
- +2 days if they have at least 6 days to take outside the period ;
- +1 day if they have between 3 and 5 days to take outside the period.
And when a leave is taken between 11/01 and 04/30, the employee can confirm or waive these days. The wording used by our client is:
"In accordance with Article L3141-23 of the Labor Code and by taking this leave, I acknowledge that I waive any right to split leave."
What Odoo already does very well
Odoo naturally manages absence requests, approval workflows, real-time balance visibility, team calendars, notifications, and HR reports. In other words: the foundation is solid, without specific development.
Where it often falls short
The "when" and the "how": reminding the rule at the right time (neither too early nor too late), avoiding permanent messages, securing the wording of the waiver, and tracking the decision without burdening HR's work.
